Piano Lessons

Note-beamed Note-beamed

I offer piano lessons in my home near Dunfermline city centre. For the most part, pupils have a 30-minute lesson each week during school term time.

Every student learns at their own pace. I do my best to adapt my teaching to suit every individual and I believe there is no “right” speed at which to progress.

Some pupils enjoy working towards ABRSM examinations, while others prefer to learn simply for the pleasure of playing. Exams can provide a useful goal to aim for as well as a sense of achievement, but they are by no means essential. My priority is to help each student develop confidence in their playing and musical understanding.

It is in my nature to be organised and I enjoy spending time preparing for lessons so that I can give my best to each student. I prefer to teach children from the age of nine upwards.

About Me

Note-beamed Note-beamed

My professional background is as a cellist, and I also teach a small number of cello students. Although piano was originally my second study, I found that teaching piano came very naturally to me, and over the years it has become my principal teaching focus.

I trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating in 2000 with a Master of Music Degree. I also studied briefly in London and Switzerland before pursuing a cello performing career in Scotland. After some years of teaching cello in Glasgow schools, I returned to my native Dunfermline and began teaching piano privately. That was twenty years ago now, and I have never looked back.

I am very passionate about my piano teaching, I get the sense that my pupils enjoy their lessons, they do tend to stick at them and I hope they get the same sense of reward from learning as I do from teaching.
